CPU Usage Still Up

Okay guys, Hero got an e-mail back from Aplus about our CPU usage, and while the disabling of the randomquote scripts has lowered CPU usage significantly, our usage is still over what it should be. After some brainstorming this evening between myself, Hero, and Randy, it's been determined that frequent (and sometimes unnecessary) access of the logs is still putting strain on the CPU. For this reason, we ask that if you access the logs, please try to do so in as sparingly a manner as possible.

Chat Room issues

For anyone else who hasn't read the logs. We received a message from admins saying our site is using too much CPU time. If we do not fix the issue, the site will suspended. I believe it may have to do with /randomquotefrom function. As of now i have turned that off. I have also reduced the refresh rate to 25 seconds, avatar to 260 seconds 15 total chat lines, and 10 total avatars. I ask that you go easy on the daily archives, as well as the refresh button, close the chat if you're not going to be in it.

The web admins have given us two days to reduce CPU time. They will get back to me in two says to see if we have been able to do so.

Thanks for your help guys.

Major topics of discussion:

  • Innovative "greetings"
  • Nadia's backlog
  • SSU's Server Woes: Episode XII "The Randomquote Reckoning"

There really wasn't a major topic of discussion yesterday. And my classification for such is at least three people talking about something for more than a screen of text in the log. A full screen for me is about 35 or 36 posts, estimated. And I don't really gauge it that accurately. Just in case you wanted to know.

Theme Day for next Sunday (10/24)

Well, we had a discussion of romance novel names, so how about for next week we have a trashy romance novel name day? Think of the raunchiest, most seductive name for yourself and maybe find a picture to match. Devlish vixen, Innocent youth, Manly stud, vicious liar, any name full of seduction and burning loins-ness will work wonders.

    SSU++ (tentative title)

The SQLing Pigs are currently in development of the new SSU, tentatively titled SSU++. To see our mission statement/project description/etc., go here. There will be a test next Wednesday.

Input is both appreciated and encouraged. Also, I should point out that today we found out we can actually produce the chat on SSU's server! (yay!) This means that we will be needing accounts which hopefully Hero can provide us with. However, Dave has his own server, and we will probably be testing it strictly on there, so I may just need a single username/login for myself (which I'm sure is what we would all prefer).

    A Public Response

I'm touched that Janus wrote that entry on my behalf, and I want to thank him for writing it...

I'm sorry for being melodramatic and overemotional about this whole mess... I probably should've responded calmly and not run off for the day, and I wish I had done that instead.

But I also wanted to say that what Janus said is right, that I am sensitive, and that yelling or complaining to me to do something isn't going to change anything. It'll just make me feel worse. I've tried to explain that kindness goes a lot further with me than being mad, and I hope maybe that you guys will be understanding with me in the future...

I'm glad to know I still have my friends...

We now bring you back to your regularly scheduled log synopsises...

    Tuesday's Argument...

After reading the log of the other night and hearing from Nadia, this is how I see things.

People think Nadia should get a job, people think Nadia should compromise with Red, people think Nadia is selfish, PMSy, that she never listens. People seem, frequently now, to be rude in pressing her on these things.

Nadia is seriously upset by the way some people say things, the repeated comments on what she NEEDS to do and how she should deal with certain things. She is under the impression that some people really don't care about her feelings.

    So, now, my opinion.

People do care, but people are frustrated, and people aren't taking into account Nadia's feelings, or would rather ignore them because if they relent to or tolerate her feelings then she won't do anything, and people really seem to think she needs a good shove. I think that people are tired of arguing with her, too. I also think PMS enflames everything greatly and blows it out of proportion.

I think... Well, I think that what most people are saying is true. Nadia does need a job, Nadia should be willing to compromise since she has the majority of the time on her hands and Red is the one out working. But I also feel that people are unfair to Nadia and disrespectful of her feelings, you have to realize that she's a very sensitive and emotional person, moreso when PMSy, and that there needs to be more tolerance, even if she's being stubborn. If she isn't listening, you need to persist in a fair and rational way, not say how difficult she or women are, or say that "she deserves it", and so forth. Berating her doesn't get it through, and honestly it's something she needs to realize and accept herself, and we need to respect and support that. She IS trying to get a job, by the way. But I think with regards to the gaming time, well, I know she'd been in control of the TV for ToE most of that week, and it's true that Red should be allowed time considering that he's out there working all the time and doesn't get to do a lot of what he wants. I know he feels really limited, time-wise, that he doesn't have time for things. He has to prioritize with art, translating, game playing, and just being in SSU. I think Nadia needs to be more understanding about that and compromise, certainly. But I think she deserves a few apologies for the other night. And I think Vav acted in the right way that night.

I could say some other stuff, but I think I'll really just be repeating myself or addressing minute details, and I feel I'm losing coherence and structure with this, so I'll stop it here. Please, everyone, try to be understanding and supportive, and not get frustrated and jump all over each other or not talk to each other and so forth.

Still not seeing any specific comments/responses, though there are two nonspecific ones on the last entry.

Anyone too lazy to look at the freaking log having specific questions about the topics or anything about it may ask them in comments and I will try to respond in a timely manner. But, honestly. I don't see it being necessary. Then again, some people are so clueless... C'est la vie.

    Janus Day!

OK, everyone, since Janus won't be here this Sunday, I think that we should make it Tribute to Janus day.
We should all be some sort of attribute of Janus that we all know and love. :) You could be a personality trait (ie caring), or a handle that he uses (ie Jansu), or some sort of thing that he does for SSU (ie Quote's Page), etc. Personally, I'm calling dibs on Log Reader, and I'm going to actually try to read the log that day. :)

    Have fun!
