:: History :: Discussions of this type occur semi-rarely but they are fairly interesting. Normally talking about history is tied in with other discussions rather than just being a topic started out of the blue itself. History is mostly tied in to theological discussions, although it also comes into play quite often when current events are discussed as well, even though talking about current events is just as rare as anything else. The only problem with this topic is that it, despite the varied subjects and the varied depth that goes into the discussion, these topics usually do not last longer than an hour at the very most before moving onto something else entirely. However, considering the various times history was talked about in SSU, it does lend quite in keeping the chat alive and teaching one another in some way. Think of it like going school but with shorter lectures, no homework, no note taking, and no need to study for anything as sickening as a Final! Needless to say, there is a severe drop in the occurance of these topics during Midterms and Finals. There's only so much you can take! :: Theology :: I think everyone in SSU realizes that when people start talking about religion the topic is going to stay for quite a while! Usually these discussions last for a very long amount of time and question...well, just about everything one could possibly imagine about various religions and the history behind them! Questioning faith is always something healthy and we just prefer to question religion a lot! When we get into anything regarding religion there's not much that will stop the discussion at all. It's believed that some of the most interesting and most intelligent discussions have come from this topic! There are also quite a few jokes that are sometimes made that could be somewhat offensive, but...you have to have a little humor. Seriously, you can never let a topic get too serious in SSU, or else!! :: Nostalgia :: One of the rarest, yet most fulfilling conversations to end all conversations. Whether it's about things from the past, which really seems to get a kick out of everyone, or whether it is about the chat itself from years ago the chat simply thrives when this topic comes up. Apparently everyone can relate to at least one thing from the past and, oddly enough, we all find nostalgia to be quite an excellent thing to think about! It's also an exciting way to remember things that you wish you had never seen or experienced for yourself to begin with. There's nothing like sitting around and talking about the old days...which is pretty shocking, especially when we find out how much we had in common before we even met each other!
:: Pokémon :: It has been far too long since one of these discussions took place. It all started with something simple, the joy of watching the anime when we all felt that it may actually end up going somewhere interesting, the days spent by raising levels of various Pokémon only to them use them to trounce every single bug-collecting half-pint and idiotic bad-ass biker with a surprisingly cute Pikachu, and the hours of searching for new items and abilities. Of course, after a while, the jokes have to come in...the brutal jokes. The jokes where common phrases are turned around to mean sexually explicit things. Vav, undoubtedly, has some of the greatest quotes from this period, and these discussions, always in jest, had a tendency to make everyone go insane with laughter and the like. Yes, there is nothing as funny as perverting an anime aimed towards children! Ah yes...the work of hundred of animators in Japan tainted by our perversion... :: Final Fantasy 3 :: One night, in order to spark conversation since SSU was quite lively and yet nobody was really talking, Final Fantasy 3 sounded like a good thing to discuss. So, to start it off, Dark Paladin thought it would be fairly funny to think about who Terra ends up with at the end of the game, since most of the major characters either end up with significant others or with family ties or whatnot. The question was asked, it was answered with "Terra and Umaro!!" and everything just went downhill from there. Soon a PG conversation turned to PG-13...borderline R, actually! Then everything went too far...or not far enough. The most innocent things you can imagine were given different meanings that night. Orlandu, even though he was only in FFB for a good amount of time and participated fairly often in chat, was immortalized forever in SSU that night. Magicite, Umaro, Terra, the Light of Judgement, and many other things will forever be changed in our minds...sometimes for the best and sometimes for the worst. This was certainly a topi that will never be forgotten...
